Turmeric and ginger shots are a concentrated drink made by blending fresh ginger and turmeric root with peeled lemons and orange, black pepper, water, and optional honey, then straining into small 50 ml servings. They take 10 minutes to prepare, need no cooking, and make 6 shots.

A popular morning drink combining the flavors of ginger, turmeric, and citrus, with black pepper to help the body absorb curcumin.

1. Strain through a cloth or fine sieve to remove the fibers and pour right away into shot glasses or a small airtight jar. Refrigerate immediately and keep for up to 7 days.

## Additional Tips

### Use warm water

Warm water at 40 to 45°C (104 to 113°F) helps the blend without destroying the vitamin C of the citrus.

### Do not peel the turmeric

The skin adds aromatic oils and a deeper color.

### Add a little fat

Curcumin is fat soluble, so a splash of plant milk or a drop of olive oil helps absorption.

| Original ingredient | Substitute | Ratio | Flavor note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Fresh turmeric | Turmeric powder | 1 heaping teaspoon per 20 g | Use pure powder |
| Water | Coconut water | 200 ml | Adds electrolytes |
| Water | Almond or coconut milk | 200 ml | Creamier |

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

### 1. Can I use turmeric powder?

Yes. Use 1 heaping teaspoon of pure turmeric powder for every 20 g of fresh turmeric.

### 2. When is the best time to drink it?

Many people take it in the morning before breakfast.

### 3. How long does it keep? Can I freeze it?

Up to 7 days in the fridge in an airtight jar. You can freeze it in ice cube trays or small plastic containers for up to 2 months and thaw it in the fridge overnight.

### 4. Can I drink it if I have heartburn?

Be careful, since ginger can be intense for sensitive stomachs. Dilute it in warm water or reduce the ginger.

### 5. Can children drink it?

In small amounts, 10 to 20 ml, with very little black pepper. Check with a pediatrician first if your child has any medical condition.

## History of Turmeric Shots

Turmeric shots are a modern take on traditional Ayurvedic preparations, where the root has long been used in cooking and folk remedies.

## Did You Know?

Curcumin, turmeric’s main active compound, is fat soluble, so it is absorbed better when taken with a little fat.
