Cabo de Hornos, the flagship wine of Viña San Pedro, achieved one of the most significant milestones in its history at Descorchados 2026: the 2023 vintage was awarded 99 points and named “Best Red Wine of Chile.”

This achievement is no stroke of luck. Cabo de Hornos has demonstrated a steady upward trajectory, consistently scoring above 93 points, with vintages such as 2021 and 2022 standing out for their regularity and quality. The 2022 vintage, in particular, reached 97 points, foreshadowing the strength and maturity of the winemaking project that is now fully confirmed by the 99-point score of the 2023 release.

The recognition is especially noteworthy given its origin. In Chile, Cabernet Sauvignon wines receiving exceptional scores typically come from established areas such as Isla de Maipo. Against this backdrop, Cabo de Hornos stands apart as the only Cabernet Sauvignon from Cachapoal Andes to achieve a rating of this level, highlighting both the potential of the terroir and the sustained work carried out in this appellation.

This result was achieved under the winemaking leadership of Gabriel Mustakis, who was also named “Winemaker of the Year in Chile” in this edition—an accolade that reinforces the technical leadership and long-term vision driving the evolution of the project.

Cabo de Hornos 2023 is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Cachapoal Andes, sourced from vineyards located at 500 meters above sea level. Its fluvial and mixed piedmont soils—featuring gravel, angular stones, sand, silt, and clay—contribute to rounded tannins, fine structure, and a distinctive mineral character. Marked diurnal temperature variation and the influence of the Andes complete an origin that clearly defines the wine’s style.

The wine was crafted following a minimal-intervention philosophy, with a meticulous three-stage grape selection, fermentation in vessels of different sizes and materials to preserve the identity of each vineyard block, and 22 months of aging in French oak barrels and foudres.

This recognition reflects years of coordinated work between the vineyard, winemaking, and cellar teams, and reaffirms the conviction that has guided Cabo de Hornos for nearly three decades: to express, in an authentic and exceptional way, the greatness of its origin.
